19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his first trophy for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from March of 2023.

Victory also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had caused some to doubt if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game chances in a competitive deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
