World Series Game 7 Draws 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate 51 million viewers across the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB announced this is the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic contest averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game drew over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series averaged 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total US viewership was 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
